The first day found us anchored off Princess Cay, a private island in the Bahamas. We had to use the ships tenders to go ashore.
Princess Cay offers water-based sports. You can rent snorkel gear, jet skis, kayaks, and paddle boats, or you can do as we did and just hang out.
There is some shopping available on Princess Cay. Off to the side there were locals selling their crafts, and one shack featuring alcohol and cigars. I'm not a cigar smoker, but bought a large Cuban stogie just to see what all the hooraw is about. After smoking it on and off for the rest of the voyage, I just don't see what the attraction is.
The shack also offered various bottles of alcohol, so I picked up a bottle of Bahaman rum and a bottle of 3-year old Cuban rum. You can't bring Cuban cigars into the United States but they apparently don't forbid Cuban rum.
The ship sent ashore plenty of food, so we pigged out while we sat on the beach. All in all, the private island is a nice introduction to what you can expect in the rest of the Caribbean.
