My Cruise Adventures

Homeport - San Juan

San Juan is an interesting town - older than most American cities. The portion of town nearest the cruise ships, called Old San Juan, is town's oldest area. We stayed at a small hotel, Hotel Milano, which is just two blocks from the cruise ship dock. Our problem was, those docks are just used for ships visiting, and there are no facilities for checking in passengers or loading ship's stores. The dock we used was in sight of the regular docks but was a 10 minute taxi ride away.

We had a continental breakfast at the hotel, which was not really worth the $5 each it cost us. Other than that, the hotel was in a good location, the room was nice, and there was free Internet in the lobby. It was a much better price than the other hotels in the area.

We took the free trolley around Old San Juan, planning to stop at the El Morro fort that guards the entrance to the harbor. When we got there, it was raining fairly heavily so we stayed on and went back down to the dock area. About ten minutes later, the rain stopped so we again boarded a trolley and went to the fort. By now it was sunny and hot, so I was able to get some nice pictures of the fort, including its new lighthouse. We made it back the hotel just before checkout time and got a taxi to our ship.
