My Cruise Adventures

Homeport - San Pedro

After a rather uneventful drive from Denver to Los Angeles, we checked into the Best Western in San Pedro. Despite reading stories of it being a scary place to stay, we had no problems. We spent the day before boarding at the aquarium, Queen Mary, the Russian submarine, and the Maritime Museum. We really liked the Maritime Museum - they had lots of intricate ship models including the Titanic and Queen Mary. At $1 donation for adults, it was the bargain of the trip.

The kids really enjoyed the Queen Mary, as none of them had yet been on a cruise ship. I liked the bridge with its polished brass instruments.

The aquarium was nice, and I learned how to take good pictures of fish.

We stayed at the Best Western the night before and the night after the cruise, and left the car there during the week. They ran a shuttle to/from the cruise terminal but needed more or larger buses. Upon our return, one couple was dismayed to find their car had been broken into. Ours, fortunately, was fine.
