There are only so many things to do in Cozumel, but we managed to do a lot of them. My oldest son took a ride on the Atlantis minisub, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, most of his photos turned out very blue.
My younger son and brother-in-law went diving. Neither is certified, but I managed to find a dive shop (Eagle Ray Divers) that had a 2-tank reef dive for uncertified guests. Both had an enjoyable time despite the sunburns.
Several of the rest of us wanted to parasail, but apparently that's a problem in Cozumel. We wandered around looking for a parasail outfit that could take my daughter and I in a double harness. Unfortunately, all we found were promises and runarounds. Eventually we gave up looking and my daughter and I piled in a taxi to look for a horseback ride. We found a place with reasonable rates, saddled up, and rode through the jungle to a town in the middle of the island. There, we saw a Maya ruin and some interesting caves made from collapsed sinkholes. We also saw a number of iguanas (dubbed "Chicken of the Tree") of all sizes.
Carnival's pier is south of downtown, but has accumulated a fair number of retail stores nearby. I took my laptop across the highway from the taxi stand and found an air-conditioned Internet cafe with brand-new Dell hardware and reasonable rates.
Finally, my oldest son made the obligatory trip to Carlos-n-Charlies to meet with some friends from Denver that were vacationing nearby.
