My Cruise Adventures

Barbados

Our only plan for this island was to visit the Mount Gay visitor center, a few blocks from the dock. Our plans were thwarted, as the center was closed. Apparently it is closed on the weekend despite there being multiple ships in port. Instead, we caught a shuttle to downtown - it was probably close enough for me to walk, but not Dad. Downtown wasn't much to speak of - I guess Barbados isn't as much of a shopping port as other islands.

It rained for about 15 minutes, so we stopped in at one of the many Kentucky Fried Chicken places to get something to drink. I guess they understand the concept of "island time" there, as it took them about 15 minutes to assemble one cup of coffee and one 7-Up. We figured those workers would not have lasted a single shift in the US, not if they can't work any faster than that.

We wandered around looking for an internet cafe but never found one - yet another sign this island was a bit different from the rest. After wandering through a vegetable market, we caught a cab back to the port. At least the port had a small shopping area, and I was able to buy a bottle of 12-year old Mount Gay rum and use the internet. I would have bought more than one bottle but would only trust one in my packed luggage (and I packed that one mighty carefully). I then wandered around the dock area and took photos of the other ships in port.
