My Cruise Adventures

Curacao

I was wondering if the Dutch islands were any different from the other Caribbean islands, and the answer is yes, they are. Curacao is quite colorful, and the shopping may be the best in the Caribbean. I initially went ashore to find an internet cafe, and told Dad I would come back to get him in an hour. Unfortunately, I kept getting directions whose destination turned out to not be an internet cafe. Finally, I went back to the ship and found Dad in the market of stalls by the port. We took a taxi back into town.

Of course, once we got out of the taxi, I found an internet cafe very quickly. I ran in and spent twenty minutes on e-mail, while Dad had a beer in the street cafe outside. We then walked down to the colorful waterfront, where the pontoon bridge would let us walk across the channel to get back to the ship.

We didn't return right then - we wandered around for a while. A small waterway off the main channel held what they called the floating market, although the only thing sold from boats was the fresh fish. The rest of the market had a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and gouda cheese.

After another beer, Dad returned to the ship while I went back to the internet cafe for one last round of e-mail. I then took a few more pictures on my walk back to the ship.

Both sides of the channel were guarded by forts, but now one serves as a hotel while the other has been filled with shops.
