My Cruise Adventures

Dominica

We had booked a ship's tour to go river and ocean kayaking and were really looking forward to it. Due to the previous night's heavy rains, the tour was cancelled due to safety concerns.

After wandering around on the dock for a few minutes, we let ourselves be talked into a 2-hour island tour. The tour was good, and our guide was very nice and well-educated. The main problem was that the tour was $15 each, and I discovered that all I had was $31 with me. I didn't discover this until about half way through the tour. So, we were not able to enjoy a beer or do any shopping on the tour.

We visited a hot spring (boiling water makes it hard to get a good picture for some reason) and a waterfall. The previous night's rain must have been hard, as the roads were often damaged.

Once back at the dock, I hurried onboard and retrieved my laptop and more money. We found the guide and tipped him, then found a place for a beer and later an internet cafe. Despite the poor conditions of the roads (not sure why they didn't seem to be well-paved), I enjoyed this island and wish to return someday. It has eight volcanic peaks and has decided its future lies in the world of ecotourism. The island is riddled with hiking trails and waterfalls.
