Yellowstone Park

After leaving the drought-stricken Colorado firestorms, we were quite surprised to find Yellowstone Park very damp and cold. There is certainly no fire danger, although we could see where the huge fire took its toll a few years back.

Travis and I took a sunrise hike at the West Thumb Geyser Basin - the temperature was below freezing and we had the place to ourselves. Well, except for the buffalo having breakfast near the parking lot (very near, actually).

We managed to tour most of the southern loop in one day, including the obligatory Old Faithful stop. We only had about ten minutes to wait - not bad for random chance. The bright sunlight emphasizes the azure color of many of the springs.

The Upper and Lower Falls on the Yellowstone River are particularly beautiful from Artists Point.
